Filing VA Supplemental Claims Online: A New Era of Convenience for Veterans
In the ongoing modernization journey by the VA, Veterans are now afforded the opportunity to file supplemental claims digitally through VA.gov. This online method is available to Veterans who wish to contest a prior refusal regarding their VA disability compensation or pension benefits.
The addition of this digital feature elevates the experience for Veterans, ensuring swift and precise notifications regarding their claim resolutions. The newly inaugurated online filing tool on VA.gov accelerates decisions on claims for Veterans by:
- Cutting down the time needed by facilitating direct submissions of supplemental claims on VA.gov, employing clear, interview-like inquiries.
- Enabling rapid and protected uploads of further evidence and documentation.
- Preserving progress, allowing Veterans to pause and resume where they stopped.
Furthermore, Veterans have the option to apply online using smartphones or other mobile devices, or if more convenient, send supplemental claims through traditional mail.
Who is eligible to file a supplemental claim?
A Veteran might opt to file a supplemental claim if they possess fresh and pertinent proof linked to a formerly rejected claim for VA disability compensation or pension advantages. Fresh and pertinent proof denotes evidence that was inaccessible during the time of the prior claim decision, possibly altering the VA's verdict regarding a claim.
Veterans can also file a supplemental claim if they seek a review of their claim in light of recent laws, such as the newly enacted PACT Act.
When filing a supplemental claim for a recently presumed condition owing to legislation like the PACT Act, it might not be mandatory to submit new and relevant evidence, although it is strongly advised. Veterans should furnish or identify medical proof that records the diagnosis and intensity of the claimed condition, along with evidence of suitable military service. If needed, the Veteran may request the VA to obtain specific documents, including medical records from a VA Medical Center or private healthcare provider.
The Enhanced Experience of Online Filing
VA assembled valuable insights from Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), and VA staff in designing the online application to refine the digital interface for Veterans and secure a seamless, rational, and safe procedure for submitting supplemental claims online.
Online filing slashes the waiting periods linked with conventional mailed claims, as applications are instantaneously received, bypassing the delays associated with tangible mailed documents. Plus, the submission of records through a secured network protects the personal data of Veterans. The digital submission of supplemental claims will aid VA in promptly rendering the benefits and services that Veterans merit while maintaining the confidentiality of their private information.
To initiate a supplemental claim online, please head to the File a Supplemental Claim webpage on VA.gov and fill out the required form.
